Immediate action must be taken to end  acute food insecurity and malnutrition in Peten Itza

COUNTERACTING MALNUTRITION

We urgently need to help more familIes assure they have enough FOOD to feed themselves and their children. Our Community garden is to provide and distribute fresh organic produce, starters and seed share so families have readily available source of healthy sustenance plus be able to create additional local commerce with any surplus which will directly help to increase ways for families to support themselves as well as one another.

Building on the current culture of front door exchanges to include circulation of fresh produce from all of our own backyard gardens.

Plant Nursery

Demonstration Site & Nursery

With very little access to fresh produce in our village, we are in dire need of growing and gaining a broader variety and selection of fruit and veggies. Our Community Gardening is promoting examples and provides information on balancing soils, water conservation, organic gardening and permaculture  methods incentivising families to grow and share organic produce, plants, and seeds to increase and create local food sovereignty

LOCAL LIVELIHOOD Development of family Homegrown Artesanal goods & Products

Our goal in the future is to be able to Support local villages small family producers with initial start up of production, marketing distribution, business skills, & guidance to gain a foothold to take their products to the next level. Aiding families to increase local good and services, organise surplus produce, develop local markets, home made, home grown products, rethinking waste, and making more products with natural byproducts that are currently not being capitalised on.

There is a major potential for our region to be entirely self sustainable, as well as be able to provide to the urbanised communities and restaurants around the lake with fresh organic local produce.
